Counselling for Panic Attacks, Anxiety Attacks, and Panic Disorder:  Horsham, West Sussex.

What exactly are panic attacks?

The distinction between panicking and having a panic attack is vastly different. We have all had moments of mild panic when we felt we cannot manage things. It could be making a mistake at your workplace or losing a valuable object such as the car keys or your mobile phone.

Panic attacks are poles apart to feeling panicky. Panic attacks come from left field, they, in general, will last up to 10 minutes, but occasionally this can be longer. Additionally, panic attacks happen for, what initially seems like, no obvious reason. Frequently individuals will talk about undergoing a feeling of terror, fear and lack of control.

Afterwards, it is not unusual to feel worried, out of sorts and mildly anxious; often perturbed about when this will happen next.

Anxiety or panic attacks can interrupt your everyday life and stop you leading the life you would like.

Indications of a panic attack:

An elevated pulse rate; the sensation your heart is racing.

Visibly shaking or trembling.

Difficulty breathing; the sensation, that you cannot get enough air into your lungs.

A feeling of choking.

Tightness or pains in your chest.

The feeling you may vomit..

The sense of being out of your body; disassociated from yourself.

The fear that you are having a mental breakdown or losing your mind.

Numbness in parts of your body tingling sensations in your hands and feet.

I got a panic attack, out of the blue one day at work. I didn’t know what was happening; it felt like I couldn’t breathe and actually felt like I was going to die. It was very scary. After this I kept thinking I was getting another panic attack and ultimately, I was not able to work. That is when I started going to therapy, in therapy I worked on really what was going on for me, at that time I was very unhappy. I am So glad I went to Eleos Counselling. Tony just listened and didn’t judge, I am beginning to feel better now.
